Program Associate

New America is seeking a program associate interested in pursuing a career in education and workforce development policy. New America is a public policy institute that invests in new thinkers and new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States. The program associate will support a variety of projects and senior staff at New America's Center on Education and Labor (CELNA).

The Center on Education and Labor is dedicated to restoring the link between education and economic mobility through policies that strengthen the key social institutions necessary to connect them – public education and job training, labor protections, and worker organizations. The Center’s work spans the policy domains of education, labor, and workforce development and seeks to connect them in ways that enhance economic mobility and reduce inequality. Our goal is to forge a more holistic approach to the challenges generated from technological change - an approach that recognizes the need to equip workers of the future with the knowledge, skills, and power necessary to fulfill the terms of our social contract.

Center staff author blog posts, op-eds, and policy papers using original research and analysis. They also convene stakeholders around policy development opportunities and organize events designed to engage and education the public. CELNA Staff also provide technical assistance to policymakers, journalists, and education and workforce leaders across the U.S., and aim to shape how policymakers and the media understand the complex relationship between higher education, vocational education, workforce development, and labor policy and practice.

The program associate will provide administrative support to CELNA leadership and project coordination capacity to the Partnership to Advance Youth Apprenticeship (PAYA), a multi-year initiative led by CELNA. This role is an excellent opportunity for a strong communicator who is organized and self-motivated, and is eager to develop skills and content knowledge related to education and workforce development topics, especially those related to young adults.

The candidate will be expected to ultimately be located full-time in Washington, DC.
