Spring 2020 Events & Production Intern

New America seeks applicants who have a strong interest in events, public policy, and analytics for our paid Winter/Spring 2020 Events and Production internship.

 

This intern will provide support to the Events department, aiding New America’s external relations and outreach efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in the event management field looking to build new skills and learn more about developing and executing events in a professional setting.

 

Candidates should demonstrate strong verbal and writing skills and attention to detail in their applications. The ideal candidate has some experience or interest in events or customer service roles.

 

Start and end dates are flexible. An early January start date is preferred; the internship can extend as late as June 2020.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work 40 hours a week in our downtown D.C. office, with some events after 5 PM or off-site at other D.C. venues
  • Assist in setup and breakdown of room for event
  • Setting up and cleaning up catering
  • Checking-in guests
  • Photographing events, editing photos, and posting on Flickr
  • Running microphones for Q&A
  • Updating contacts in Salesforce
  • Occasionally cut highlight reels as directed by program and editorial teams
  • Undertake various short research and writing projects, and light administrative duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong attentiveness to detail and ability to problem-solve
  • Proactive, with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on the job
  • Prior experience in a customer- or client-facing role (e.g. hotels, customer service desks, restaurants) a plus
  • Experience with Photoshop, Lightroom, or other Adobe Creative Suite products a plus
  • Experience or interest in video or audio editing a plus
  • Interest in public policy issues relevant to New America a plus
  • Prior experience in Salesforce or other contact/invitee management system a plus
