Data Visualization/Web Designer
New America’s Education Policy program (EPP) seeks a Data Visualization/Web Designer to work with analysts to develop engaging infographics and data visualizations, lay out publications, and build webpages.
This position is full-time, ideally based in Washington, D.C., but open to candidates who can at least monthly visit the D.C. office.
Responsibilities:
Design
- Design original illustrations, data visualizations, typographic materials, social media graphics, and one-pagers to promote EPP’s research—working within New America’s existing brand guidelines and standards;
- Help build New America’s EPP visual brand through graphic design work—ensuring consistent application of style, typography, and other visual elements across mediums;
- Partner with New America’s central communications team to ensure EPP’s sub-branding is aligned to the enterprise-level brand strategy;
- Working in coordination with the program research analysts, triage incoming graphic requests and assess needs for photography and graphics, repositories, customizable templates, slide presentations, and formatting issues;
- Train program research analysts on the basics of Datawrapper (data visualization tool) to empower them to produce visualizations independently and review these products for stylistic accuracy and brand cohesion;
- Design fresh collateral within existing brand parameters, including the production of icons, headers, and banners;
- Collaborate with EPP’s social media and media relations lead and other stakeholders on promotional and outreach strategies, including social media shareables, brand representation, newsletter graphics, and SEO audits.
Website Management
- In collaboration with EPP’s Communications Director, manage and field all requests for web layout and formatting, including reports, briefs, event pages, collection pages, and initiative pages;
- Assist in layout and design of publications, formatting EPP’s research publications for the website; and
- Drawing on a working knowledge of HTML, embed data visualizations, videos, and other collateral on the website—working with the central communications team to troubleshoot as necessary.
Qualifications:
- At least three years of professional experience in design, data visualization, and brand management;
- Knowledgeable in design tools such as Illustrator and InDesign, web content management platforms, and Google Analytics; willing to learn and use other technical programs and applications as necessary;
- Solutions-oriented, able to collaborate and engage with non-designers and understand the eds of the end users; and
- Collaborative, takes initiative, diplomatic in giving feedback, and has strong technical and analytical skills.
Compensation & Benefits: This position is a full-time role with benefits. The annual salary range for this position is $77,000 -$96,000 depending on experience and demonstrated competencies.
