New America’s Future of Property Rights Program (FPR) works to solve land, housing, and property rights challenges both domestically and internationally. Through research, writing, and convening, we strive to bring technologists, policymakers, advocates, and researchers into the same room to help find solutions to vexing challenges in the housing and land rights space. In our domestic work we examine the causes and impacts of housing loss, with a particular focus on the impact of structural factors like racism, poverty, and environmental injustice. We take a data-driven approach to understand where housing instability is most acute, who is most impacted, and why; and we communicate these findings to policymakers and advocates, helping to develop solutions.
About the Position:
FPR is looking for a candidate to help lead its U.S. portfolio, which is currently focused on housing insecurity but could expand to include land rights, the property rights implications of climate change, and other related work. The ideal candidate is a thought leader with experience in housing policy, exhibiting an ability to work with data and a love for research and writing. The candidate should be a self-starter and a good multi-tasker, capable of working in a fast paced environment on a small, agile team. The candidate should also thrive on collaboration, as partnerships and multi-stakeholder approaches are essential to our work.
The candidate will build on our program’s “Property Loss in America” initiative to expand and deepen U.S. housing work. This will include mapping property loss across multiple U.S. cities, in partnership with data science partners; leading multi-stakeholder efforts to improve housing loss data; producing research and policy reports; writing OpEds; speaking at events and other convenings; and fundraising as needed.
Please submit a resume, a professionally written one-page cover letter, and a brief work sample. Compensation is commensurate with experience and is competitive.
The application deadline is September 25, 2020, with an anticipated start date of October, 2020.
