Senior Operations Associate
New America is seeking a Senior Operations Associate for its Planetary Politics program. The associate will provide vital organizational, communications, and research support for the program. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned self-starter with excellent organizational, communication, and administrative skills who takes pride in keeping the trains running on time and delivering impact. Team work, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are qualities that would be highly valued and well-rewarded for the person in this position.
Planetary Politics is a new program at New America, a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank that invests in new thinkers and new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States. The program is a call to action for reimagining a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable global order. We engage in empirically driven research, policy development, and support explanatory and policy oriented analytical journalism on key policy issues of the day.
Primary function: This position will be a full-time position, including benefits. This position will largely involve administrative and communications support but there is room for growth. We encourage professional development within a small and highly collaborative team.
Responsibilities:
- General organizational and administrative support:
- Manage program schedules and timelines
- Draft and review partner and contractor agreements and contracts;
- Manage program invoices
- Assist with scheduling and note-taking during internal and external meetings
- Manage monthly expense reports
- Liaise with logistics and administrative service providers.
Internal and External Communications:
- Support program communications strategy by:
- Managing social media
- Update website regularly to reflect latest program work
- Assist with the development of program materials and presentations
- Assist publication processes, including fact-checking, proofreading, maintaining bibliographic reference data
- Maintain and update contact databases
- Events Coordination
- Research panelists, draft invitation text, prepare bios, and prep tweets
- Coordinate event set-up and logistics with Events team
- Perform and execute on after action review tasks
Other Duties:
- Other responsibilities and opportunities as required or as time allows, including opportunities to develop an individual research and writing portfolio
Qualifications:
- Experience with executive management and/or board relations
- Excellent writing and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated interest in international relations, U.S. foreign policy, technology policy, human rights and/or global development
- Experience (including volunteer experience) in non-profits, advocacy organizations, or political campaigns preferred
- Familiarity with creating, keeping, and tracking budgets. Strong Excel skills preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to both work independently and build relationships across a widely-dispersed organization
Compensation and Benefits: This position is a full-time role with benefits. The annual salary will be between $60,000.00 – $70,000.00, depending on experience. New America offers a highly competitive benefits package that includes health care, dental, and vision coverage; a generous retirement plan; paid time off; observes all federal holidays; and an office-wide closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Location: This position will be based in New America’s Washington, DC office with up to three days a week in person.
